Mayor Garcetti, First Lady Amy Elaine Wakeland, and the Getty House Foundation Board of Directors invited LAUSD high school students and local college students from Occidental College, LACC, UCLA, LMU, Pepperdine, CSUN, USC, and MSMU studying Journalism and Communications to Getty House to hear a curated panel about the state of journalism for women and best practices for launching a successful career in media.

The Women in Journalism program examined how the media drives dialogue about social ills including sexual harassment, domestic abuse, and homelessness. The panel discussed bias in news coverage of women, editorial decisions impacting coverage, and offered guidance to attendees on launching careers in journalism. We hosted a professional panel of working journalists in four varying mediums including television, radio, print and new media.
