Community Holiday Series: Feeding Families During Covid-19

December 9th, 2020

Like many of you we have stopped operating in our usual way during this pandemic. Over the past seven years since Mayor Garcetti and First Lady Amy Elaine Wakeland sought to truly engage the community at Getty House, we have tried in every way possible to make the house a place for civic engagement and community. None of us could have predicted that a global pandemic would halt our events and ability to gather together to discuss community issues. This dramatic halt temporarily delayed the great work of our Women’s Leadership Series, Engage LA Series and Community Holiday Series and our ability to increase the civic dialogue in our community around issues of great importance and relevance. Now that we are beginning to revive our different events virtually, we also felt it was important to share that during our COVID downtime, we remained committed to supporting those most in need in our community.

Through the support of LA Urban Farms we have been able to continue harvesting vegetables from our 14 tower gardens and have provided nutritious food to families in need at the Downtown Women’s Center and Alexandria House.
